The scene in the movie depicting the moment of the iceberg warning and the ships' collision with it lasted 37 seconds, which is the same amount of time that passed between the real warning and the collision. Furthermore, Cameron edited that specific part of the film to make sure that it stuck to the same time that the real Titanic sunk for- which was 2 hours and 40 minutes.
4. The sketch used in the scene with Kate Winslet's nude body was actually drawn by the director, James Cameron. He even adds Jack's initials and a dateline of April 14th 1912 (the day before the real Titanic sank). The sketch itself was sold for £10,000 in 2011.

6. There was a J Dawson on board the real Titanic. His name was Joseph Dawson and he worked shovelling coal in the ship's engine room. Joseph was one of the 1,500 passengers who went down with the vessel, and his gravestone can be found at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
7. The studio wanted Matthew McConaughey to play the role of Jack, but James Cameron insisted on Leonardo DiCaprio.
8. In order to secure the lead role, Winslet reportedly got ahold of director James Cameron's number and called to tell him, "I just have to do this, and you are really mad if you don't cast me." She'd go on to deny doing this years later, but admitted to sending him roses with a note signed, "From Your Rose" after her audition. "Jim took a risk in casting me," she said. "A lot of my contemporaries — Uma Thurman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Winona Ryder — were much more likely candidates. I got lucky."
